IMPORTANT AGREEMENT WITH MINE-OWNERS. ANTI-STRIKE CLAUSES. Press Association. AUCKLAND, February 3. A full agreement was arrived at this afternoon between the Huntly Enginedrivers’ Union and the directors ot the Xaupiri Coal Mines. The conference was presided over, at the request ot both parties, by the Conciliation Commissloner (Mr T. Harle Giles). The main points agreed to were a fortyeight hours week and an all-round increase in wages, but important provisions were inserted relating to unionists and to strikes. The clauses regarding the latter make stringent provisions to prevent strikes or lockouts, the union agreeing that it will not, as.a union, recognise, take part in, or assist in any strike without the consent of threefourths of its members by a secret ballot, and at least six weeks’ notice must be given to the employers.
