STEAMERS IN STORM
SWEPT BY TREMENDOUS SEAS. LONDON, January 30. Tlio Swedish steamer Margarelha, 8456 tons, has arrived at Plymouth. She experienced tremendous seas, everything moveable being swept overI board. There was ten feet of water in the engine-room. The captain pumped a thousand tons of oil from the cargo overboard at the height of the storm. This was success, ful in calming the seas. LOST IN THE ATLANTIC. LONDON, January 30. r+ is believed that the grain steamer I Whittingham, from Baltimore to Rotterdam, has been lost in the Atlantic during the recent storms. ] one has been posted as overdue.
