KILLERS’ DISPUTE
COMPANIES’ CONFERENCE TO-
DAY.
No developments came to the surface yesterday in connection with the dispute between the slaughtermen and the meat freezing companies. Both sides are very reticent as to their intentions and little that is new can be known before the conclusion of the toonjpanies’ conference which is to meet in Wellington to-day. The result of the conference is being awaited on both sides with a great deal of interest, and there are many speculations as to the attitude the companies are likely to adopt.
DEADLOCK IN CANTERBURY,
MUTUAL CONFERENCE TO BE
HELD
Fress Association. CHRISTCHURCH, January 30. “Still marking time” describes the present position in Canterbury in respect to the slaughtermen’s strike. There are as yet no indications of the Slaughtermen’s Union giving way, and a member of the union informed a reporter that the members were prepared to fight to the bitter end. It is possible that some way out of the existing deadlock will be decided upon by a conference to be held in Wellington to-morrow, but no information beyond .the fact that two local freezing companies will be represented at the conference was obtainable as to the proposals to be discussed by the con. ference.
