GOVERNOR OBJECTED TO
RESOLUTION BY ORANGE LODGE.
SYDNEY. January 30
The Premier (Mr McGowen) referring to the resolution of the Grand Lodge of Orangemen of New South Wales protesting against the appointment of Sir Gerald Strickland as Governor of New South Wales, he being a Roman Catholic, whereas the population of the State is overwhelmingly Protestant, said: “I have not acted as the Grand Lodge desires, as medium between them and the King’s representative, as tho Government does not consider tho resolution a proper communication for it to forward to the King’s representative, reflecting, as it does, upon his Majesty’s prerogative and impugning tho loyalty of the State.”
