Roberts, Labour M.P. for Norwich, presiding at a conference of tho Labour party at Lambeth, criticised Canada’s offer of battleships, which, ho said, would greatly add to Britain’s annual expenditure. If Mr Churchill’s assurances were accepted that tho defensive forces were sufficient, throe extra vessels must bo in excess of requirements. Moreover, giving the colonies representation on the Imperial Defence Committee would be fraught with far-reaching consequences, and must bo subjected to searching inquiry.
