TERRITORIALS FINED
Special to the "Times." MABTON, January 30.
A young man, Arthur Beilis, charged with absenting himself from parades without leave, was fined £2 and costs at the Talhape Court to-day. According to Captain Hum© this was a bad case, as defendant was constantly giving trouble. On one occasion the captain ©aid defendant had told the sergeant-major he was unable to attend parade as he was suffering from sunburn, and asked to be excused, but he subsequently rode up to where the Territorials were drilling and jeered at them. On the second occasion he asked for leave to go at 9 o'clock, and after being refused permission he left the Drill Hall, thus absenting himself without leave.
Another young fellow, Edward A. Bates, who was alleged to have been with Beilis when the men were jeered at, was also fined £2 6s and costs for failing to attend a parade.
