SMITHFIELD AND BELFAST
MEN CEASE WORK.

CHRISTCHURCH, January 28. The slaughtermen at the Smithfield and Belfast works ceased work this afternoon. Nothing is' settled so far as to what the result of the trouble. There was no demonstration to-day, the' men leaving quietly.
