Some very fine interior decorative painting has been done lately at the Empress Theatre by Mr G. Coulter, who was sent across from Sydney by Mr J. D. Williams, specially for the work. The ceiling of the theatre has been simply but tastily decorated in_ pale green, cream, and gold. The main cornice mouldings and pilastres are done in ivory white and gold. Figure and floral sprays embellish each side of the proscenium, and there is a panel of roses above the centre. The feature of the scheme, is, however, the figure panels on the side walls, the subjects being well drawn and the colouring brilliant, yet chaste.
