FRUIT AND PRODUCE

WELLINGTON MARKETS

Th© recent improvement in the local market for peaches and apricots has not been confined to these two lines only, as there is a decidedly stronger tendency in regard to nectarines, plums and pears as well as dessert and cooking apples, in fact a far hotter tone is being displayed and so far as apricots, plums and peaches ore concerned there is likely to be a further rise, as supplies of these fruits should very shortly show a decided reduction in volume. Apples and pears however should come forward freely ere long, and values may decline ; a great deal, however, in the immediate future depends on the quality of th© apples. The usual weakly shipment of fruit from Sydney is due to-day, and is expected to comprise grapes, pineapples and peais. In legat'd to the last named, as .New Zealand pears are now finding their way on to the hlarkete, values for oversea shipments may undergo a decline; everything, however, depends upon the volume available. The Aioana, Irom San .Francisco aiid the'Cook Islands, is due here to-night, and no doubt will discharge a moderate quantity of bananas from tho last-named quarter. Iso fresh fruit is expected from ban Francisco. POTATOES AND ONIONS.

Fairly large quantities of potatoes continue to reacii the maiket, the recent line weather, up till yesterday, having been favourable to growers to market. Immediately southern tubers are on the market there should be a decline in value, as this market will be influenced by the volume available in the south. The quality generally, continues gooo, and the demand is satisfactory. Local onions are receiving the greatest measure of attention, and the bulbs coming Imward continue to show excellent quality. Pickling onions are in good demand with very lew ottering. Potatoes, prime AT to A" 10s per ton; onions,. AT Ws to AS per ton; pickling onions, Al 3 to Al 3 10per ton. OTHER VEGETABLES.
