Quite a shock was experienced in foot* baU and other circles in Christchurch yesterday states a Press Association meswneu news of the drowning in '.vangauui (as a result of a yachting miauapj of Mr W. G. Brown, was received. Air Brown, who was twenty-nine years of ago, was very prominent in football and Territorial circles in Christchurch. U'p till three years ago he was engaged in farming operations in the Ellesmere Uist-iict. and whilst there was a member of the Ellesmere Mourned liifles. Takihg a farm at Boon Hay about three years ago. Mr Brown Joined the Christchurch football Club, and as wing forward quickly Jumped into the front rank of the players in the province. In 1911 ho secured a place in the representative team, and last year he captained the Christchurch team in the senior competition. About three months ago he gave up fanning and Joined the staff of Halgety and Co. at Wanganui. He was a eon of Captain Brown, Papanui road, Christchurch. The funeral will take place in. Christchurch.
