LOWER HUTT COUNCIL

The Lower Hutt Borough Council met last evening, when there were present the Mayor (Air E. P. Bunny) and Councillors Hobbs, Kompthorne, Hodgins, Hoots, Clendon, Knight, Dawson, and Ball. The Public Trustee acknowledged the receipt of debentures for .£3500 and remitted the earn of «C49G 13s Gd, the amount of the first instalment. The Mayor explained that the Public Trustee was short of money, and he (the Mavor) had arranged for part of the loan to be taken up privately. A cheque was received from Messrs Riddiford and Watkins amounting to ,£SOO as a deposit, and debentures were issued to that amount. In regard to a recent deputation which waited upon the Minister of Railways to urge him to stop certain trains at Petonc, the Minister replied that an alteration could not bo made oh the ground that if additional stops were made passengers for further up country by the mail train would complain. An alteration in the running of Sunday trains was also refused.

The Wellington Meat Export Company informed the council that arrangements are being made to provide more storage for fuel oil, but the company did not agree with the statement that the _ oil wqs dangerous in its present condition. ENGINEER'S REPORT.
