TYPOGRAPHICAL UNION

ANNUAL MEETING. ■ The annual meeting of the Wellington Typographical Union was held in the Oddfellows 1 Hall on Saturday evening, Mr G. C. Barker presiding over a large attendance. me report showed that the year had oeen a very strenuous one. The many matters in connection with the Doinion award dispute were the most important dealt with by the board. The .ward, so far as country craftsmen were concerned, was in advance of anything that had hitherto prevailed in the trade. The increase for compositors ranged from 10s to £1 per week right throughout the Dominion outside of the four cities. There wero some very objectionable features in the award, which were brought before members for, consideration. The union’s share of the expense incurred by the Federation in securing the recent Dominion award amounted to £174 19s, so tar as direct levies were concerned.

The following are the officers for the ensuing year; President, Mr James Harper (elected unopposed); vice-pre-sident, Mr M. A. Robinson (elected unopposed) ; secretary-treasurer, Mr J. W. F. McDougall (re-elected unopposed); trustees of general fund, Messrs T. Mclntyre and D. Ryrio (reelected unopposed); trustees of mortality fund, Messrs W. O. Millar and W. Sutherland (re-elected unopposed); auditors, Messrs H. E. Ashby and W. Parsons; board members, Messrs S. Geary, B. J. Finucane, and F. W. Swift (re-elected).

A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the retiring president (Mr G. C. Baiter), members emphasing his valuable services to the union during the two years he was president.
