PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the Petona Borough Council was held last evening. Present —The Mayor, Councillors Short. List, Wakobam, Brooklebank, and Cox. The Hamilton Borough Council wrote stating that there was a difference of opinion in Hamilton as to the advantages to be derived from the establishment of a Fire Board, and they wanted the council's opinion regarding the working of thq system and if it had been of advantage to the town and ratepayers. The council decided to reply that they had a very efficient service, but th© expense was necessarily greater. The Wellington Photographic Jsociety asked the councils permission for the members of tho society to visit the Koro Koto Reserve on Saturday, February Btb> and should the weather be wet asking to have tho permit made available for the following Saturday. This was agreed £o. The council decided to pay ,£25 to the Hiitt Park committee, being the balance >f the council's contribution to the committee’s funds. The Recreation Ground committee reported that the football clubs in Pei one had been communicated with, and that St. David’s Association be allowed No. 4 ground upon the same tonne us last year. They asked for an . extension of time in which to report upon the allocation of the remaining grounds. The committee had instructed the engineer to improve tho grounds over the stop-bank by putting in sumps, top-dressing and rolling the ground. The report was adopted, with the exception of the allocation of No. 4 ground, and this was referred back for further consideration.
