Bush and scrub fires arc raging in several parts of the North Wairarapa, s.nd a considerable quantity ot grass *nd fencing has been destroyed. It is anticipated that over 2000 sheep per day will be slaughtered at the Waingawa works during the remainder of tho season. So far 60,000 sheep have been killed at the works this season, and it is expected that the total will reach 200,0CX) before the works close down. Last season 189,000 sheep wore dealt with. Twenty-eight butchers are now employed at the works. Tho now agreement between the freezing company and tho men will come into force on Thursday next, and in consequence tho stock market is more settled, and prices should have an upward tendency. There are at present twenty-nine patients in the Master ton hospital, including throe cases of fever.
