LAWN TENNIS
BRITISHERS IN AUSTRALIA. (Received January 26, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, January 25. At the tennis matches a fierce sun made tenuis hot work. Dixon lost the first set against Campbell, and was somewhat disconcerted by Campbell’s clever placing. Dixon’s serving and cross-court play were brilliant, and in tho next two sets he was superior in every department. Heath’s match against Beamish was exciting by reason of hard hitting and fast play. Heath looked tho winner for tho first two sets, but lost direction and control. Parko played poorly in tho doubles, but Dixon was seldom in trouble. Dunlop’s occasional brilliant volleying enlivened matters. Brookes was always ready when needed, and his service was seldom at fault. Results: Dixon beat A. Campbell, 4—-6, 6—l, 6—l. Beamish beat Heath, 4—6, 7—5, B—6. Brookes and Dunlop beat Parke and Dixon, B—6, 6—3, 3—6, 6—4. Tho present scores are: Britain, 2 rubbers, 5 sots, 54 games. Victoria, 1 rubber, 5 sets, 48 games.
