MARINE WORKERS
PROSPECTS OF AGREEMENT AT PORT CHALMERS.
Special to the “Times.”
DUNEDIN, January 25. The agreement between, the Port Chalmers Marino Workers’ Union and tho shipping companies, terminates on February Ist. The union have submitted demands, to form tho basis of a new agreeent, and tho employers have proposed a conference to consider them. There are good prospects of an amicable settlement.
With regard to the rumour of a wider significance which has been floating about for a day or two, there seems little probability of tho Dunedin watersiders at least listening to any strike talk. Though tho proceedings of tho Federation of Labour Council at Wellington aro being conducted in camera, it is not thought by the watersiders that anything of a sensational nature is mooted.
