SOCIAL DOINGS. January 23. Colonel and Mrs Jollie (England) are visiting Hawke’s Bay. Mr and Mrs Bert Glendining, of Gore, have bean visiting Mr E. Glendining at Waihua station, for three weeks. Mr and Mrs P. S. McLean are visiting the South Island. Mr and Mrs Shrimpton (Matapiro Station) have gone to Taupo. Mr and Miss Kettle have gone on a visit to Honolulu. Mr and Mrs ±l. lan Simson have left Havelock to take up their residence in Wanganui. Mr and Mis Walter White (Hastings) are leaving shortly for England by the Urvieto. The engagement is announced of Miss Flora Nairn, of Hastings, daughter of Mrs Henry Nairn, of Cambridge, Waikato (late of Pourere, Hawke’s Bay), to Mr_Douglas Barrington Kent, solicitor, of Hastings. Mr and Mrs A. H. Russell, of Tunanni, Station, have returned from England. Mr and Mrs Colin Campbell have gone to reside at Dunedin, where Mr Campbell has been transferred in the Bank of New South Wales.
Mrs J. Vigor Brown and family have gone to Auckland. Miss Lydia Williams (Te Ante) and Miss Keith have gone to Rotorua. Recent visitors to Lake House, Waiwere Mr and Mrs Stock (Gisborne). Miss Meadows (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs Kight (Taradale), Mr Lee (Waipawa), Mrs J. McKinnon (Wairoa), Miss Fountain (Napier), Mr and Mrs Bloor (Gisborne), Mr Bryant (Melbourne), Dr Collins (Gisborne), Mr E. Lane and family (Napier). Mr and Mrs Sim (Chirstchurch) who are visiting Mrs Tod (Napier), leave for England next week. Mrs On - (Napier) and Mrs Bygum (Wairoa) are leaving for England in March. Mr and Mrs J. H. Deane have token a house at Petane for the summer months.
A recent engagement is that of Mr John Olsen, of Gisborne, youngest eon of tho late Mr E. T. Olsen, of OrmondVille, to Miss G. Clarice Campbell, daughter of Mr Colin Campbell, of Stanley Point, Auckland. Another engagement is that of Miss May Harris, only daughter of Mr it. Harris, Takouka, Onga Unga, and Mr William H. Gulley, of San Francisco. An enjoyable tea was given recently by Mrs Russell Duncan in honour of Miss Kitty Wood, whose marriage with Captain Hollis took place last week. Mrs Duncan wore a pretty white embroidered frock. Miss Wood was in grey and amethyst, hat trimmed with roses. Among the guests were Mrs Troutbeck, Mrs Riddell, Mrs G. Roberts (Dunedin), Mrs Patullo, Mrs Ewen Troutbeck, Mrs A. 0. Russell. Miss Seed (Wellington), Mrs Barron, Mrs Gould. Misses Duff, Wilson, Duncan, Clampett and others.
Mr and Mrs D. S. Laing have gone on a fortnight’s .visit to Mrs Sinclair at Wairoa. Miss Tonkin has accompanied .liern.
Mrs h. B. Lusk is visiting her daughter, Mrs (Dr) Singer, Gisborne.
