S FRIDAY. JANUARY M. (Before Dr A. McArthur. SAI.) THEFT. Thomas Callaghan, a seaman, was convicted an ddischarged on a charge ot stealing a clock valued at 10s, the property of Thomas Brown. Callaghan stole the clock from a lodging house in Tory street and pawned it for 2s. He was leniently dealt with on his undertaking to repay the 2s to the secondhand' dealer. The clock has been recovered. "THE WORST OF XT." Lawrence Price, who pleaded guilty to assaulting Henry Evans in a house in Bbor street on Thursday, was lined £l, with costs 10s. Accused stated that he had to defend himself from the attacks of Evans and two associates, and admitted having got “the worst of the deal.” REMANDED. William Spindler was remanded until January 31st on a charge of receiving from Thomas Ridout about 201 b of tobacco, valued at -£G, knowing it to have been dishonestly obtained. FORGERY ALLEGED. Charged with forgery on the Union Bank of Australasia, Martinborough, a cheque for £5, purporting to have been drawn by Gawitn and Logan, Hoi ace J. Richards was remanded to appear at Martinborough on January 29th. SEX MONTHS. Stella Taylor, who was described by the police as a woman of bad character, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment on a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond.
