FRUIT AND PRODUCE WELLINGTON MARKETS. After a lengthy period of depression the local market for peaches and apricots appears to have taken, a slight advancing tendency, and unless heavier quantities come forward this should show some permanency. The season is getting .somewhat advanced now, at the same time it will be some little while before there will be any very Heavy falling off in the volume arriving. Plums are coming forward freely still, and nectarines are slightly higher in value. Consignments of apples are gradually increasing, ana a few odd cases of locally grown pears are making their appearance from time to time. The quality, however, in respect to dessert varieties still leaves something to be desired. Black currants are practically finished for the season; both green and yellow gages, particularly the former are well inquired for. Only Messina grown lemons are available at the present time, and are meet* ing with good attention. The market has still a few cases of Californian oranges available, and these are selling well. The principal fruit available at this weeks sales for Sydney fruits was pears, and anything in choice condition had ©xcellent comnetiition. A further quantity arrived from Melbourne yesterday. The next shipment of bananas is due on 31st instant from the Cook Islands. It is noticeable that there has been a decided improvement in the quality and grading of this fruit from the islands in question, and they are now a serious competitor to Fiji. Apples, prime dessert 6s 6d to 7s 6d case, good 5s to Gs,, cookers prime 4s Gd to 5s Gd case, good 3s Gd to 4s; pears, prime dessert Gs to 7s case; plums, choice 2s Gd to 3s, prime Is Gd to 2s; peaches, choice 4s Gd to 5s half case, prime 3s to 3s Gd; greengages, choice 4s Gd to 5s half case, prime 3s to 4s; apricots, choice 4s to 4s Gd' half case, prime 3s to 3s Gd; nectarines, choice 4s Gd to 5s Gd half case, prime 3s to 4-s; tomatoes, choice 4s Gd to 5s half case, prime 3s to 3s Gd. POTATOES AND ONIONS. The local market continues to fluctuate within a small range for new potatoes. So far there are not any South island potatoes oflering, and we are depending for supplies on the Auckland province as well as nearer at home. Values rule from A 7 10s to A 8 10s per ton for choice samples. Local onions have now taken up the attention of handlers, with the result that) Victorian onions are being left alone. The quality of the New Zealand onions is excellent, with a fair. demand at the present time at 8s to 8s 6d per cwt; pickiers still remain scarce and demand strong at Al 3 to Al 4 per ton. OTHER VEGETABLES. The general tone of the market is a strong tone, as supplies, with the exception of probably only and beans, are short of requirements. Cauliflowers, choice 8s Gd to 10s sack, prime 6s 6d to 7s Gd; cabbages, 7s to 9s sack, prime 5s to Gs; lettuce. Is to 2s case: carrots, 5s Gd to 7s sack; marrows, 4s Gd to 5s case; parsnips, 6s Gd to 7s 6d sack: pumpkins, 8s to 10s sack; French beans, id to lid lb; green peas, 8s to 116 part sack; cucumbers, Gs to 8s dozen. EGGS. A further sharp rise has taken place in the value of eggs, supplies being far short of the needs of the market with Is 3d per dozen ruling. POULTRY. In excellent demand generally for all lines. Prime roosters, young 4s to 5s pair, fair 3s to 3s Gd; hens, good birds 4s to 4s Gd. fair 3s to 3s Gd; ducks, 4s Gd to Gs pair; tunrkeys, gobblers 18s to 225, hens 8s to 10s.
