THE CHORAL SOCIETY.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sir, —I have a grievance which is shared in by a good many others who attended at the oratorio last night. The performance was freely advertised, and the public urged to purchase tickets for admittance, presumably to all parts of the church in which the concert was given. A matter that was freely discussed was the best part of the building to sit in so as to hear to the greatest advantage, the gallery being generally voted for. I myself decided to eit there, but was doomed to be disappointed. On presenting my ticket at the entrance to the gallery, I was politely, but it struck me somewhat diffidently, informed that the seats upstairs were reserved. Now, I am not complaining of the mere fact of the reservation of the gallery seats, as I admit it was quite within the discretion of the committee of the Choral Society to reserve them ; but I do complain of the private if not underhand manner in which it was done, only a privileged few being admitted to the secret. ' It was on a par with the treatment the public have received on many such like occasions, and is one of the causes of the society not being as popular as it might and upon its merit should be. As this, though written of my own notion, is an expression of dissatisfaction felt by a considerable ' v'.rr. of which the committee is probably ■ T -rust the publicity thus given to the -oay have the desired effect of preventing * recurrence of the annoyance.—l am, &c., i Elijah.
