The s.s, Tararua has arrived at Russell from Sydney* '* The following vessels were in port last night:— Steamers—Samson, Jane Douglas, Patca. llinem°a. Ran gut Ira, and Charles Edward. Ships—Wairoa, Opawa. Arethim. and /calandia. Uarqnes— Malay and Ansdell. Brig—Neptune. Three-masted schooners—Ellerton and Sophia. The steamer Kiwi, from East Coast, with a cargo of 350 bales wool, arrived in harbor at 1.30 this morning. The Rangatira arrived at 3 a.m. yesterday from Wanganui, Taranaki and Manukau. During the afternoon she steamed round to the Patent Slip for her usual overhaul. The .‘tcarner having been chartered by the Naval T’.rigado for Loxing Day, she will not return to the Manukau until Saturday afternoon. The steamer Tfuia left Foxton at 3 p.m. on Monday, and arrived alongside the wharf at 3 a.m. yesterday. She left again at 7 p.m. for Kaikcmra and Lyttelton. The steamer Manawatu, which left for Wanganui on Saturday evening, only reached her destination yesterday morning. She returns to port this morning, leaving again- at 10 p.m. on an excursion trip to Wanganui, The Government steamer Stella sailed for the Wairau and Brothers lighthouse yesterday afternoon^ Tho Union Company’s steamer Waitaki will arrive* this morning from Picton and Nelson, and leave again at noon for Lyttelton and X’ort Chalmers. Captain Williams’ barques G. M. Tucker and Australxnd, from Newcastle, were still at anchor at tho Heads yesterday afternoon, bcingunahle to beat into harbor against the north-west gale. The steamer Charles Edward leaves on an excursion trip to Nelson atd3 o'clock this evening, returning to port on Mondav morning. The Union Company's steamer Taiaroa will arrive this morning from Lyitelton and Port Chalmers, and leave again at 10p.m. /or Manukau and intermediate ports. Tho steamer Jane Douglas did not leave hast night for Kaikonra ami Lyttelton as advertised. Hhe leaves on an excursion trip to Foxton at P 3 o’clock to-night, returning to port on Sunday evening. The steamer Wakatu. from Wanganui and Nelson, arrivcdinportato.lsa.nl. yesterday. She returned to ttie same at 8 o’clock last night. The schooner Jane Anderson went ashore on the Manawatu bar on Monday afternoon while being towed out by tho steamer llnia. It is expected she will become a total wreck. The schooner belonged to Air. Keith Ramsay, of Dunedin, and was insured for XSSO. and the cargo for T 350, in the National Insurance Company. The Union Company's steamer Rotornahana will arrive to-morrow morning from Melbourne and Ho barton via Southern ports. Shy leaves again at 10 a.m. on an exenrst m to Melsou. The steamers S'ormbird from Foxton, and Napier from Blenheim, should put in an appearance this morning. The steamer Tui may he expected to arrive from Wanganui this morning. As will be seen by a ivertisement the steamer makes a special trip to Wanganui for the benefit of excursionists, leaving *v,-Hing-ton at 3 o’c’oek this afternoon, and returning on Sunday night. The Government stewner /linemoa, which arrived in port yesterday from Onehunga. where she had taken the Auckland members of the Assembly, made the extremely rapid passage of 25;J hours from wharf to wharf, which is by far the fastest time of any recorded. The only m?ar approaches to it were made by the Luna several years since in something over 29 hours, whde the Hincjnoa herself had on a previous occasion made the run in 27 hours odd. The ste mer left the Manukau wharf at 2.25 p m. on Monday, and for seven! hour* after crossing rhe bar, light airs and an extremely heavy swell wore met with, then a favorable wind springing up. canvas was spread and made use of t il the vessel was well into the Strait, the vessel rnakin t fast to tho ’Wellington wharf at 4.10 p.m. Yesterday the run up took with head winds and squalls prevailing nearly the whole way.
