Tho Union Company’s steamer Wakatipu will arrive this morning from Lyttelton and Port Chalmers, and sail again at noon for Sydney direct. On account of the wind going into the southward, the ship St. Leonards did not get away for London as expected. Tho ste imer Kennedy may be expected to arrive this morning from Nelson and West Coast ports. She is advertised to return to the same ports at 9 o’clock to-night. The Union Company’s steamer Hawea is due in harbor to-morrow forenoon from Lyttelton and Port Chalmers. Tho Union Company’s steamer Rotorua will arrive on Monday from Sydney via Auckland and East Coast ports. The steamer Rangatlra will arrive to-morrow from Wanganui. Taranaki, and Manukau. The Union Company's steamer Wanaka, from A uck and and Ea*t Coast ports, arrived in harbor at 10 30 a.m. yester'ay. She sailed again during the evening for Lyttelton and Port Chalmers. The steamer Si ormbird may be expected to arrive from Wanganui this morning. She leaves for Foxton at 4 o'clock to-day. The steamer Manawatu crossed the Wanganui bar at S p m. on Thursday, and arrived here at 8 a m. yesterday. She returns to the same port at 8 o'clock

tills afternoon. Tho Union Company’s steamer Taiaroa will arrive in Imrbor this morning from the Manukau and intermediate ports. The steamer Grafton arrived from "White Rock at 1 a.m. yesterday, and sailed again for East Coast ports during the afternoon. Tho Union Company’s steamer Arawata arrived in harbor at 9.15 a.m. yesterday. She left Melbourne at 4.30 pm, on the 2nd, reached Hobarton at 7 a m on the 3rd. sailed again at 2 p m., and arrived at the Bluff at 5 a.m. on the Bth ; had strong head winds on the passage across. Leftat 5 p.m., reached Port Chalmers at 11 a.m. on the 9th, sailed at 3 p ra.. but had to anchor for five h>*nrs at the Heads for the tide ; called at Lyttelton, and arrived here as above. The Arawita sailed again at 4 p.m. for Napier, Gisborne, Auckland, and Russell. The sailing of the steamer Till for Wanganui has been postponed till 4 o’clock this evening. Tire steamer Huia should arrive this morning from Foxton. She leaves for Kaikoura and Lyttelton during the evening, Tho steamer Jane Douglas left Lyttelton at 6 p.m. on the 11th instant, and arrived at Kaikoura at 5.30 a.m. on the 12th; left at 11.45 a.m., and arrived in harbor at 10 p.m. ; experienced light southerly winds. She leaves for Rangitikei this evening. NOTICE TO MARINERS. Marine Department, Wellington, N Z , 9th December, 1879. With reference to the preliminary notice issued by this department, dated the 16th day of August last, it is hereby notified that on and after Thursday, the Ist day of January. 1880, a light will be exhibited from the lighthouse which has been erected on Akaroa He rd the position and characteristics of which are as follows The Akaroa Head Lighthouse is situated on Akaroa Head, at the eastern side of the entrance to Akaroa Harbor, Banka Peninsula. The tower is 28 feet in height, and is built of timber and painted white. The light will be a second order flashing white light, visible all round as far as the land admits, and will showa flash every ten seconds. The light will be elevated about 270 feet above th* sea. and allowing 16 feet for the height of the eye, ill bo seen at a distance of 22 8-10 nautic miles in clear weather, and at lesser distances according to the state of the atmosphere.
