TWO TEACHERS DROWNED NEAR OAMARU.

Oamard, Friday. A sad accident by drowning occurred this morning to Miss Gordon and Mr. Hevnauk, both teachers in the Makino school. They were on their way to school ftliis morning in a dray driven hy a man named Davis, and when nro.-siug the ford of the Kakanui river, just below the homestead of Mr. Elder, the dray got swept into a hole in the river, and capsized. Davis swam ashore, hut Miss Gordon and Mr. Hevnauk were both drowned. A large number of settlers have been dragging for ihe bodie- all day, but up to the present they have oe-n unsuccessful. The dray sank in the river, and it is surmised that the bodies are under it.
