A WOMAN AND THREE CHILDREN STRUCK BY LIGHTNING.
(PER PRESS AGENCY.) Auckland, Thursday. The lightning struck the house of H. Faulkner, settler, at Otumatai, Tauranga district. Mrs. Faulkner and her three children were sitting in the kitchen, by the fire, when the lightning struck the chimney, travelling down into the kitchen, splitting the woodwork of the mantel-piece in two, and dashing the four persons who were sitting near the fire to the ground. A portion of the electric fluid struck the hearthstone, smashing two bricks, and then made its escape to the earth. The husband ran into the kitchen and found his wife aud children senseless ou the floor. The apartment was full of smoke of a sulphurous odour. All gradually recovered, however, though the youngest girl, who was leaning on the mautel-shelf, was most injured. She remained unconscious for thirty-six hours, and is much burnt.
