Stewart, Wragge, and Calcutt. AUCKLAND. Tuesday. The Rotomahana leaves for the South to-morrow morning at 9 o'clock. NELSON, Tuesday. Arrived ; Taiaroa, at 6 a,m., from Picton, KATKOURA, Tuesday. Arrived: Jane Douglas, at 9 a.m., from Wellington. NAPIER, Tuesday. Arrived ; Hawea, at 7.45 a.m.. from Wellington. FOXTON, Tuesday. Arrived : Stormbird, at 7 a.m., from Wellington. WANGANUI, Tuesday. The steamer Rangatira arrived at 9 last night from the Manukau and Taranaki. She leaves at 7 to-night for Wellington. HOKITIKA, Tuesday. Arrived : Eliza Firth, brigantine, from Melbourne. The time-ball maybe used to-day for rating chronometers. A chronometer true on Greenwich time would show 12h. 30min. when the ball drops. Any difference is error, plus or minus, of the chronometer. The following vessels were in port last night Steamers Samson, Agnes, Tui, Hinemoa, Patea, Oreti, Wallace, and Grafton. Ships Raikaia, Wairoa. St. Leonards, and Zealandia, Barques— Malay, Sophia R. Luhrs, and Edwin Bassett. Brig— Neptune. Three-masted schooners Ellerton and Sophia, The Union Company’s steamer Taiaroa, from Picton and Nelson, with the Circus troupe on board, will arrive here at an early hour this morning, and leaves again at 2 p.m. for Lyttelton and Port Chalmers. The steamer Rangatira only left Wanganui at 7 o’clock last night, and should arrive in harbor about 8 o'clock this morning. She leaves again at 2 p.m. for Wanganui, Taranaki, and Manukau. The steamer Wakatu should arrive to-day from Picton and Nelson. The topsail-schooner Poneke, from the Sound with a cargo of timber for her owners, Messrs. Waddell and McLeod, arrived in harbor late on Monday night. The steamer Wallace arrived from Nelson and West Coast ports yesterday morning, and returns to the same ports at 4 p.m. to-day. The steamer Kiwi may be expected to put in an appearance this morning from East Coast ports. Sim is advertised to leave for Castlepoint, Ureti, and Flatpoint at 4 o’clock this evening. The Union Company’s steamer Rotorua left Port Chalmers at 7.30 p.m. on the 22nd, reached Lyttelton at 11.45 a.m. on the 23rd, sailed at 4.45 p.m. on the 24th, and arrived in harbor at 9.45 a.m. yesterday. Had strong head winds with thick weather from the latter port. The Rotorua sailed again at 1 p.m. for Sydney via Napier, Gisborne, Auckland, and Russell. The steamer Oreti, from Manukau and intermediate ports, arrived in harbor at 5.30 a.m. yesterday. She returns to the same ports at 2 o'clock this afternoon. The Union Company’s steamer Wellington is due to-morrow morning from Southern ports. The brigantine Sarah Pile, with a cargo of 85,000 ft kauri timber for Waddell and McLeod, arrived in harbor at 5 a.m. yesterday. She left Kaipara on Friday morning, had north-east wind till off Cape Egmont, then strong from the south-east till off Stephen Island, when it went into the north-west, against which she beat into port, arriving as above. The steamer Patea left Patea at 5.30 p.m. on Monday, and arrived in port at Ba. m. yesterday. Had strong north-west wind throughout the passage. The ; Patea is advertised to return to the same port at 11 o’clock this morning. The schooner Aurora, for the East Coast, and barque Malay, for Newcastle, will sail to-day. Three of Captain Williams’ colliers—the Edwin Bassett, Sophia R. Luhrs, and Neptune—were at the Heads all day yesterday, but were unable to beat into harbor against the north-west gale. The coastal steamers Lyttelton and Napier, from Blenheim, Stormbird, from Foxton, Huia, from Wanganui, and Wakatu, from Wanganui and Nelson, should arrive to-day. The Nelson, a schooner of about 50 tons, went ashore yesterday during a westerly gale while entering the Waitara River. There is every probability of her becoming a total wreck. The Duke of Edinburgh will, it is believed, hoist his flag, in November as Admiral Superintendent of the naval reserves, in succession to Vice-Admiral Phillmore, who then completes his period of service. The screw steamship Strathleven,. of 2436 tons burden. Captain C. W, Pearson, having been chartered by the Agent-General for New South Wales, left Plymouth for Sydney on the 4th September with emigrants numbering 575 souls. On the return voyage of the Strathleven (says a Home paper), an experiment will bo tried for bringing a large quantity of Australian beef and mutton to this country, the vessel having been fitted up with the patent machinery of Messrs. 801 l and Coleman for the preservation of fresh meat by the “ODry Air Refrigerative Process.’*
