THIS IS TO NOTIFY that JAMES CAUGHLEY, of Auckland, New Zealand, Boilermaker, did, on the twenty-seventh day August 1 deposit at the office of the Patent Officer, in the Colonial Secretary’s Office, in Wellington, a specification or instrument in writing, under his hand and seal, particularly describing and ascertaining the nature of the said invention, and in what manner the same is to be performed ; and that by reason of such deposit the said invention is protected and secured to him exclusively for the term of six calendar months thence next ensuing. Whereas an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, dated 17th October, 1878, intituled the Land Claims Act, 1878, was advertised in the London Times on the 6th February, 1879, together with a notice under the authority of the New Zealand Government that all unsettled claims to land purchased from the aboriginal natives which shall not be prosecuted before the 31st day of December, 1879, shall be forfeited for ever : And whereas the restrictions under which her Majesty’s Commissioner is permitted under the said Act to hear my especial claim, involve a compromise by me of felony,—l hereby give notice that I cannot take action under the said Act and notice, and moreover, that all persons holding adverse possession of any portion of the above-named purchase against me the rightful owner thereof, do so under Crown Grants obtained by fraud.
