AUSTRALIAN SUMMARY.
(per ROTORUA AT AUCKLAND.) Sydney, November 8. At Queensland several parties have been exploring and prospecting country near Mulgrone, Barrow, Johnston and Nicholson Rivers. Mulligan and party returned unsuccessful from tho Take River, but intend returning. A woman named Kirby murdered her infant child at Sambo, nearly severing its head from the body with a knife. She then attempted to commit suicide. Sam Lee, a butcher in Palmer, has com. mitted suicide by stabbing himself with a knife. The first instalment of the debentures for the three million loan were despatched by mail on the Bth. The Government have ordered compound engines and twin screws from England for the new tug-boat in connection with the dredging at Rockhampton. Tenders will be invited for the full amount immediately. Colonel McDonnell has resigned the command of the volunteer force.
