CRICKETERS ASSOCIATION BENEFIT.
The performance at the Theatre Boyal, last night, was not so well attended as the object for which it was given led most people to expect it would have been, the entertainment being a benefit tendered to the Cricketers Association by the Wellington Garrick Club. There was, however, a large number of tickets disposed of, so that, even though all the purchasers might not have been present, the results were satUfaetory from a financial point of view. The entertainment was under the patronage of his Excellency the Governor and Lady Robinson, and also that of the members of the Ministry, but none of the patrons were present. The entertainment was on the whole a very good one, and was divided into two parts, the first consisting of vocal selections, and the latter of the performance of that pleasing play, “ All that Glitters is not Gold,” which was rendered by the Garrick Club. There were several items in the first part worthy of special notice, notably Miss Nina Tulloch’s sweet song, which was encored, and also the very excellent rendering, by Master Parlato, of the song “All that Glitters is not Gold,” which was also rewarded with an encore. The second portion of the programme was undeniably the best, each performer vieing with the other to render the performance a success. One or two hitches were, however, noticeable, but these mast be expected in first performances, even in well-trained companies. The acting of Mr. O’Connell, as Sir Arthur Lassell, the accomplished roue, was excellent, while that of Mr. T. Williams, in the amusing character of Toby Twinkle was also very good. The other parts were creditably sustained, a ■word of praise being especially due to the lady performers, who made first class representations of the characters they essayed. The acting of the members of the Garrick Club is really excellent, and shows that they devote themselves enthusiastically to their work. We should like to see more of the performances of this amateur company.
