CHAIRMANSHIP OF COMMITTEES.

TO THE EBITOIt OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sib, —I have heard from very good authority that Mr. Bunny is not to be placed in the list of the doubtful ones, but is an out-and-out supporter of the present Government, and will continue to be so until after the election of Chairman of Committees ; and as compensation for his loyalty he is to have the block vote of the Government party, by which some expect, and Mr. Bunny hopes, to secure that position with its emoluments. Mr. Bunny up to the present time has played his cards rather badly, in not having secured something good before this ; and I am open to bet he does not get the Chairmanship of Committees, notwithstanding all the promises the Government may have made, and all the influence they can bring to bear on the occasion; because, in the first place, they have not a majority of the new House, and in the next place some of those gentlemen who may bo fairly ranked among Government supporters, will not be found so destitute of all sense of the fitness of things as to support Mr. Bunny’s claims to that position. By the same rule that Mr, Bunny will be rejected as chairman of committees, viz., a general sense of the fitness of things, Mr. O'Rorke will be again elected without opposition to the Speakership. Poor Bunny, on losing the chairmanship, will have again to take up his old position on the rail, where we shall find him carefully looking on each side, with a view of ascertaining as to where the most and best crumbs are likely to be picked up. If I were Bunny I would make a bold dash, and change sides at once, the present Government being powerless to give him what they are now dangling before him ; for I am certain that the hope so long deferred of getting something good under the present Government must be enough to make a stouter heart than his sick.—l am, &c., C.
