MEETINGS OF CREDITORS.

A meeting of creditors of Mr. J. K. Owen was held yesterday, Mr. McDowell in the chair. Liabilities were stated at £2675 10a., and assets £2BOO. Portion of liabilities to the extent of £2040 were due to Messrs. T. and W. Young, who were partly secured. Mr. W. F. Strike was appointed trustee, and Messrs. Dimant and McCarthy were appointed supervisors to bring up a report in conjunction with the trustee. A statement was made by the debtor to the effect that when he took the Melbourne Hotel he had £I2OO iu the Bank of Australasia, and in entering into possession of the property he incurred liabilities to the extent of £ISOO, and it cost him £2BOO to get in. He had kept a bank account from the time he entered the hotel until six when he discontinued keeping the - ccount because the bank returned a cheque far about £4. The bank pass-book had not been handed to the trustee, but the other books he had kept were in the possession of the Registrar. The bank-book had been partly destroyed by oil of vitriol which had got into his sate. He would forward it to the trustee. He had never kept any record of his receipts and expenditure for the last six months, but would band over to the trustee any vouchers in his possession which would show that he had made payments during the past six months. He had had nothing to do with the hotel for the past five weeks, Mr. T. W. Young having taken possession under a bill of sale. A friend had taken a small house in Lorne-street for his (debtor’s) wife and children. The license for the hotel had been transferred to Mr. Young since he had filed a declaration of insolvency.—The meeting was adjourned for a week. An adjourned meeting of creditors of O. W. Langstone was also held yesterday, and Mr. Dimant, the trustee, reported that the debtor had given him possession of his assets, which consisted of £7 worth of furniture and some accounts amounting to £25. He did not think the latter were worth much, but would endeavor to collect the money. The meeting then adjourned. An adjourned meeting of creditors of Martin O’Brien was also held yesterday. The debtor was examined by the trustee, Mr. Dimant, and it was elicited that his wife had disappeared with some boxes. The trustee intimated that he would oppose the debtor’s discharge. A meeting of creditors of Oscar Mapleaden, carpenter, was also held yesterday. Assets were set down at £l2B, and liabilities £IC4. Mr. C. A. Baker was appointed trustee. At a meeting of creditors of William John Woods, cabdriver, Mr. Richardson was appointed chairman. Assets were stated at £330, and liabilities £2OO, The principal asset was a section of land in Adelaide-road, which was mortgaged for £364. The debtor was examined at some length concerning a cab and carriage, which was claimed under a bill-of-sale by his brother. Mr. Wylie was appointed with the trustee, Mr. Jeffrey, to make an investigation into the estate, and report to a future meeting. A meeting of creditors of Mr. Thomas Evans, Carterton, was held yesterday after? noon, and Mr. Dimant was appointed^trustee. Assets were stated at £4070, and liabilities £3762.
