THE MESSENGER ABANDONED.
Nslsok, Monday. There is no further news of tiie Me-senger’s boats. The s earn-r Lady Barclay went out last night t > search, and the Nava! Brigade started in their boat this morning for the same purpose. Christchurch, Monday. The barque Messenger, reported on Farewell Spit, was in command of Captain Miles, who purchased her a few months ago nt Mauritius, and brought her thence to Newcastle in ballast, coming on to Lyttelton with a cargo of coal. She left again for Newcastle on September 11, in ballast, and was spoken off Kaikoura by the barque Vindex, which arrived at Lyttelton on the night of the 17th. The Messenger is an old Dunedin vessel, but was in good repair. Her registered tonnage was 925 tons. She was owned by G. W. Turner, of Christchurch.
