"IVTOTICE is hereby given that under and 111 by virtue of a writ of fieri facias, duly issued out of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, I have taken in ext outiou the lauds hereinafter mentioned ; that is to say:—All that piece of land situate in the City of Wellington, containing 13 perches and 3-10ths of a perch, being the Allotment numbered '2 in deposited plan numbered 30, and the whole of the laud in the Certificate of Title, Vol. 7, Fol. 54. All that piece of laud containing 11 perches and 4 of a perch, more or less, situated in the City of Wellington, part of .Section numbered 656, and being the Lot numbered 22 on the deposited plan numbered 30, and being the whole of the land in Certificate of Title, Vol. 8, Fol 213. The Equity of Redemption in all that piece of land containing 22 perches and a | of a perch, being the Lot numbered 1 and part of the Lots numbered 9 and 11 on the deposited plan in the Land Transfer Office numbered 30, being part of Section numbered 656 in the City of Wellington, and the whole of the laud in Certificate of Title, Vol. 11, Fol. 141. All that parcel of land situate in and being part of Section numbered 1 on the plan of the Harbor District, and being the Lots numbered 8, 10, 35, and 36 on the plan deposited in the Deeds Registration Office at Wellington, numbered 81, with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging. And that I shall cause the same to he sold by Public Auction by John Howard Wallace, at his Auction Room, in the City of Wellington, on Wednesday, the 10th day of December next, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. AN Examination will be held on DECEMBER 8 next at Auckland, Napier, Wellington, New Plymouth, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill, and such other places as may be determined upon, of candidates desirous of competing for the above scholarships. These scholarships are six (G) in number, of the estimated value of sixty-five pounds (£65) per annum. Two (2) are tenable for three (o) years, two (2) for (two) years, and two (2) for one (1) year, are open to candidates from all parts of New Zealand, and entitle the holders to board, lodging, and instruction at the School of Agriculture, Lincoln, near Christchurch. Candidates must be between the ages of sixteen (16) and nineteen (19) years. The following are the subjects of examination : COMPULSORY SUBJECTS. English—An Essay on some easily understood subject, general questions on Etymology, Grammar, and the use of words. A Paper on Shakespeare, Henry IV., parts 1 and 2. Mathematics—Arithmetic, Algebra to simple equations (inclusive), Euclid, first four books and sixth ; Plane Trigonometry to solution of triangles (inclusive), and logarithms. Science—Elements of Inorganic Chemistry, Elementary Experimental Physics, Elementary Physical Geography, Elementary Natural History. OPTIONAL SUBJECTS, Any two of which may be selected by the candidates. Latin—Translations of easy passages at sight, questions on Grammar, Paper on Horace, Odes Book IV. Greek—As in Latin, Euripides’ Alcestis. French—As in Latin, Racine’s Andromaque. German—As in Latin, Schiller’s Wilhelm Tell. English History—From the accession of William 111. to the Crimean war. Conditional on the papers being satisfactory to the Examiners, tile three years’ Scholarships will he awarded to the two candidates who stand first and second on the result list, those standing third and fourth securing the two years’ scholarships, the one year scholarships falling to the candidates occupying the fifth and sixth places. All scholarships will be tenable only during good behavior and observation of such regulations as may from time to time be made, and on the successful passing of such periodical examinations at the school ns may be determined upon. MATRICULATION EXAMINATION. Candidates for admission to the School of Agriculture are required to pass a preliminary examination in the following subjects, viz,:— 1. English.—Reading, spelling, and dictation, grammar, and composition. 2. Geography.—Descriptive. Knowledge of places of political, historical, and commercial importance in New Zealand, British Isles, and on the European Continent, and the drawing of outline maps of New Zealand, British Isles, and Europe. Physical Geography.—Distribution of land and water, mountain and river systems, changes effected by agency of water, and climate as influenced by mountain, plain, and sea. 3. Mathematics.—Arithmetic, vulgar and decimal fractions, interest and other commercial rules, square root, and simple cases of mensuration of surfaces. The first examination will be held on the Bth December next, at the same places as will be held examinations for the School of Agriculture Scholarships. As there is accommodation at the school for only fourteen resident students, in addition to those holding scholarships, the candidates will have the option of residing within the school buildings according to place on examination list. The papers of candidates who are unsuccessful in the competition for Scholarship?, may count for matriculation in the subjects prescribed for the matriculation examination, and such papers shall be submitted to the examiners for the matriculation for the purpose of classification.
