THE NATIVE DIFFICULTY.

(per press agency.) New Plymouth, Tuesday. Eight more ploughmen were taken this morning on Turnbull’s farm, Huirangi. Mr. Turnbull, with his neighbors, succeeded in hindering the ploughing, so the Maoris came last night with spades and mattocks and hacked up the land. On being brought before the Court they pleaded that Te Whiti and Tohu ordered them to do it. They received the same sentence as the others previously convicted. All the prisoners were sent on board the Hineraoa.at noon. Over seventy Maoris are iu town. They say they intend to plough the racecourse soon. Hawera, Tuesday. Last Sunday night a ’ Constabulary man named Jekyell deserted from Waihi, stealing a settler’s horse and saddle, with the intention of going to Parihaka. The wires were put in motion, and he was captured at Opunake at 2 o’clock on Monday morning. It is high time Parihaka was broken up, for at present any European scoundrel can seek shelter there and defy the Government. The Maoris are still on the other side of the river, making a pa and fencing in the lands.
