(PER PRESS AGENCY.) Dunedin, Tuesday. Despite the head teachers of the city schools being unanimously against the project, the school committee have decided on giving a year’s trial to the Penny Banks system. A slight shock of earthquake was felt at half-past nine last night. A prisoner named Goldsmith was received into the gaol yesterday, under a month’s sentence, for resisting the police at Palmerston. On the removal of a false heard he was wearing, he was identified as William Barnard, who is wanted at Kaiapoi tor sheep stealing. Rooney, the arresting constable, is entitled to a reward of £75. New Plymouth, Tuesday. Subscriptions are being liberally given for the relief of the schooner Arthur Wakefield’s crew.
Nelson, Tuesday. A sharp shock of earthquake was felt here at 10.50 last night.
