VITAL STATISTICS.

Eeturn of the Number of Births, with the actual Mortality, and the Proportion of Deaths to Population, in the under-men-tioned Boroughs, during the Month of June, 1879.

The deaths of persons not residents of the boroughs, occurring at hospitals, have been excluded in all cases. Population—ln the cases marked thus* the numbers given are for the 3rd March, 1878, according to the census then taken ; in the other cases the numbers have been estimated for the Ist January, 1879. The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 395, against 445 in May, a decrease of 50. The deaths amounted to 144 in June, a decrease of 26 on the number in May. Of the above deaths, males contributed 75 ; females, 69. Sixty-five of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 45T4 per cent, of the whole number ; 43 of these were of children under one year of age.
