TO THE EDITOR OP THE SEW ZEALAND TIMES. x am one of the hundreds who were present in the Theatre Koyal last night to witness the first representation in Wellington of “H.M.S. Pinafore f and with the vast majority of the audience felt annoyed and irritated by the utterly uncalled for hissing that from time to time proceeded from a part of the audience. To a certain extent, this mode of expressing opinion, however bad the taste displayed, or the ignorance manifested,, cannot be interfered with. But I certainly think that both the public and members of the theatrical profession have reason to complain when persons, evidently interested, station themselves at the door, and, button-holing utter strangers, exclaim, “Is’nt it shameful !” “Did you ever hear such a failure 1” &c., &c. Three times a fellow of Israelitish appearance, with whom I certainly have not the honor to be acquainted, addressed me after this fashion. I would gladly embody in this my reply to but that I am assured yon would not, in the interests of morality, publish it. I enter my indignant protest against this sort of thmg, and feel convinced that the enclosure of my card will be sufficient guarantee that I am in no way interested in the company. Indeed, I have here expressed no opinion except as against a repugnant and utterly un-Enghsh system of attempting to influence public opinion.—l & e, » ... FAiE?LAr,
