SUPREME COURT. —CRIMINAL SITTINGS.

Tuesday, July 15. (Before his Honor the Chief Justice.) SENTENCES. Antonio Bitossi and Csesari Perotti, who had been convicted of wounding, were brought up for sentence. Both prisoners contended that they had merely acted in self-defence. His Honor sentenced the former prisoner to hard labor for eight calendar months, and inflicted a nominal fine of Is., ordering him to enter into his own. recognizances, and to find one surety in the sum of £2O for his good behaviour for six months after the completion of his sentence. Perotti was sentenced to four months’ hard labor, and ordered to enter into similar recognisances for his good behaviour six months after his release. A nolle prosequi was entered in the case of Fernandez. BREACH OP THE ASMS ACT. In the cases of Regina v. Brodie and Cooper the Hon. Mr. Buckley, who defended the accused, intimated that he was not prepared to argue the demurrer to the indictment on s# short a notice, and it was consequently arranged that the trial by special jury abould be fixed for Wednesday next, pending the decision on the demurrer, which will be argued daring the interval. The Court then adjourned till Monday next, when the special jury case of Turnbull v, Maysmor will be taken.
