Wo report no change in quotations for imported goods during the past week, business being still dull and. unsatisfactory to an extent hardly anticipatedAll sales aro of the most limited character, and although a largo amount of trade must necessarily bo doing to supply the wants of an increasing population wo hear of no sales beyond the ordinary and current requirements of the retail trade, nor can wo expect„to sco much improvement until a better feeling of security and confidence exists than is tho case at present. Stocks of all kinds continue heavy, and are apparently likely to increase while tho desire on the part of Importers to realise, tends to keep all prices lower than con.-is cut with precedent trading operations. though, as a counterpoise, offering great advantages to ontsldo buyers. in colonial produce there is littlo or no change in prices, with a fair amount of business doing. Butter, in kegs, is difficult to place in anything like shipping parcels at lOd to 10£d per lb for prime euro: small lots for local consumption move off slowly at lid per ib. with ordinary trade demand. Bacon and hams aro scarce, and worth B|d to lOd per lb, A parcel of
the new cure has been received lately, but haying gone Into the retail trade direct we are unable to quote value. Cheese continues dull at ojd to7dper lb Jor prime Southern make. Quotations for flour remain the same as last week’s rates, but are appalently firmer. Bestbrandsof Canterbury and Oamaru mills are worth £0 10s to £lO per ton for sacks In bakers’lots. Oats move off slowly at 3s to 3s 3d; fowls’feed. 3s to 8s 6d; maize, 4s to 4s 3d ; bran, 8d to lOd; pollard, £olos per ton; potatoes, 90s per ton.

Wheat was inclined to harden In the early part of the week, but was checked on the receipt of Melbourne exchanges—best, 3s Od to 3s 10d; Interior, 3s; fowl feed, 2s od. Oats are weak—best, 3s; feed. Is Bd.to la lOd; good barley, ss; potatoes. Derwent, £6. Business In general merchandise fairly brisk—British ales, 12s to 14s Od: South, 12s Od; sacks, 8s 0d to 9s; woolpacks, 3s 0d to 3s 9d; sugars hardening; and teas maintain their value. The grain and produce show at Wlnton to day was largely attended. The exhibits, however, were not very numerous, but thero was a good show of grain of all kinds, grass seeds, dairy produce, and some very superior agricultural Implements of Wlnton manufacture.
