HUTT LICENSING COURT.—ANNUAL MEETING.
Wednesday, June 18. [Before Commissioners Messrs. T. A. Mansford (Chairman), J. Grey, and W. Beetham]. RENEWALS. The following renewals of licenses were granted ;—W. Bishop, Provincial Hotel, Upper Hutt; Nathaniel Valentine, Railway Hotel, Lower Hutt ; Henry Border, Criterion Hotel, Upper Hutt ; Isaac Wilkins, Railway Hotel, Upper Hutt; J. D. Fraser, Fraser’s Hotel, Lower Hutt; J. A. Williams, Albion Hotel, Taita ; George Wiltshire, , Travellers’ Rest, Taita ; A. McMillen, Family Hotel, Bower Hutt. REFUSE*. ' George Jones, lessee of the Golden Fleece Hotel, Pakuratahi, stated that it was not his fault' that his application was not sent in within the prescribed time. He had done all he could. Jt was not for himself that he wanted the license but for his tenant. He handed in a document to the Bench signed by a number of residents in the district, asking that the house might be licensed; The Sergeant of Police said that he had told Jones that the house was unfit to have a license.. The applicant said it did not make it a bit of difference to him whether the house was licensed or not because he was going to remove from it. In answer to the applicant the Bench said that the ground on which the license is refused is, that the application had been sent in too late. If at the next Licensing Court the police complain of the unfitness of the house evidence would ho taken. The hotel would would have to be shut up at the end of the present month. ,
