RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Tuesday, June 17. (Before Messrs. T. Kebbel), G. M. Waterhouse, and J. Woodward, J.P.) DRUNKENNESS. Two inebriates were each fined 55., or in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment, for drunkenness. BREACH OP THE LICENSING ACT. . George J. Squires, landlord of the Metropolitan Hotel, was charged with selling alcoholic liquors after midnight on the 30th May last. Constable Walters stated that about 1 o’clock on the morning of the 30th May last he visited the Metropolitan Hotel, and found seven persons there drinking liquor. Defendant was sitting in a chair, and appeared to be asleep. Mrs. Squires told witness the persons drinking were all lodgers. This was all the evidence. Their Worships said they were determined to put a stop to such breaches of the Act if possible, and fined defendant £lO and costs, INJURY TO PROPERTY. W. J. Davidson was charged with damaging the property of Thomas Judd, at the Hntt. On the application of defendant the case was remanded until Friday.
