The appearance o£ two new singers has created considerable attraction at Covent Garden. At this early part of the season no less than five debutants —Mddle. Sohou, Signor Sylva, Signor Vidal, Mdlle. Turolla, and Mdlle. Pasqua—have been introduced, all of whom have met with a favorable reception. On Easter Monday the Opera was “ Les Huguenots,” in which Mdlle.- Schou took the part of Queen Marguerite, and Signor Vidal that of Marcel, the Staunch Protestant soldier and faithful retainer of Kaoul de Nangis. Mdlle. Schou is one of the gifted ladies of Swedish origin who have spread the musical reputation of the North far and wide. Her voice is a light and brilliant soprano, such as suits the part, and its compass fully satisfies the almost exaggerated demands of the composer. She also possesses in a high degree what singing masters call agilita, and the pointurc with which the part abounds seemed to present no difficulty to her.
