(PER ROTORUA AT AUCKLAND.) Melbourne, Juno 7.
News from Bombay to the 23rd May states that in consequence of tho Dacoit disturbances tho police have been supplemented by a military, force consisting of 800 infantry and 200 cavalry, who are scouring the country., A party of the military aud police on countered a number of Dacoits on May 17, who were completely routed and several killed. It is believed the Dacoits do not exceed a few hundreds.
Latest intelligence telegraphed to Point de Galle from Bombay, dated 26th May, gives the following articles of tho Treaty of Peace with Afghanistan ;—lst. Peace and friendship between the two nations is declared. 2nd. The Ameer grants an amnesty to all whoheld intercourse with the British during the war. 3rd. The relations of the Ameer with other Powers to be conducted under the advice of the British Government. 4th. A British officer to redds at Cabul. sth. The Indian Government to have power to depute agents. 6tb. The Amoer guarantees the safety of British agents in Afghanistan. 7th. Telegraphic communication to be . established between Cabul and Calcutta. Bth. The restoration to the Ameer of the territories occupied by the British expeditionary force, except certain passes which are to be treated as districts assigned to India. 9th. The surplus revenue derived from these districts will be paid to the Ameer. 10th. The British Government to have complete control of the native tribes in the Khyber and Meanee Passes. 11th. An annual subsidy of six lacs of rnpees to be paid to the Ameer contingent upon his observance of the treaty. 12th. A mixed commission to be appointed to settle the question of the boundaries.
