Tuesday, May 27. (Before Messrs Wallace and E. W. Mills, J. P.’s) DRUNKENNESS. One inebriate was fined iu the usual sum. PETTY LARCENY. John Dormath was charged with stealing a fork valued at 2s. Prisoner pleaded guilty.. Prosecutor stated that he kept an oyster shop,.; Prisoner came to his shop and stole a fork. When asked for it he gave it up. He was then given in charge to the police. John Crawford, master stevedore, gave accused a very good character. ■ The Bench were of opinion that accused did not take the fork with any felonious intention, and dismissed him. RESISTING THE POLICE. John Macarthy was charged with resisting and assaulting Constable Laurie while in the execution of his duty. The case was clearly proved, and accused was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment. ATTEMPTING TO RESCUE A PRISONER. William Palmer and J. Clark were charged with attempting to rescue the last prisoner from Constable Laurie. They were sent to gaol for 14 days. OBSCENE LANGUAGE. Daniel Plunkett was charged with making use of obscene language, and was fined Is. and costs. . BREACH. OP BY-LAWS. The following persons were fined as under for various breaches of the Municipal By-laws : Wandering Horses.—C. McKirdy, 10s. auc( costs ; Thomas Taylor, 10s. ; W. Pascoe, 3s. ; James Blandford, 2s. / Timothy Hayes, Dennis Kenny, Robert Porritt, and J. Carter, Is. each. Thomas Taylor was fined, £1 for rescuing a horse while it was being driven to peund. Robert Taylor was fined Is. and costs for driving his vehicle round the corner of a street other than at a walking pace. Four other persons (strangers) were dismissed for committing breaches of a similar kind. Archibald Menzies was. fined Is. an.d costs for carrying, certain articles, to the obstruction of pedestrians. ~ .
