LONDON WOOL SALES.
(PER PRESS AGENCY.) Dunedin, May 27. Messrs. Cargill, Gibbs and Co. have received the following telegram as to the wool market from Messrs. Helrauth, Schwartzs and Co., dated London, 23rd May :—A good tone prevails in the sales. Prices for Port Philip and Sydney grease (wether) higher, .particularly medium wools. For Adelaide and New Zealand grease prices are unchanged. Prices for the bulk of fleece are as depressed as at last sales, and the improvement in prices for crossbred as lately telegraphed is not maintained. Prices for superscoured are firm, while prices for Port Philip and Sydney superfine fleece are as low as at the end of last series.’ Trade with Germany is good, but rather flat in England and France. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. report under date Loudon, May 21 :—The wool sales are progressing firmly. Competition of both home and foreign buyers is active. Up to date 105,000 bales have been sold.
The wheat market is quiet; Adelaide is worth 48s. Mutton tallow, 345.; beef, 425. per cwt., and there is no speculative demand. Town milled flour is cheap. There are heavy arrivals of North American. Leather, best sides, 9 Id.
