Two topsail schooners were signalled as being at the Heads just before dusk yes'erday afternoon. T"ey will probably roach the anchorage car’y tills morning. The Pioneer, which came into liarbor short of water, got under way yesterday morning The schooner Croydon Lass, after discharging her cargo of general produce from Tlmaru, leaves here for Nelson, whore she will load for Wanganui. The steamer Storrnbird left yesterday afternoon lor Foxto". The steamer Albion is due hero to-morrow from Melbourne via the ‘-‘out 11 : The schooner Reward, from Picton, timber laden, arrived at the breastwork yesterday morning. She left Picton on Monday morning, and experienced fine leather across. The steamer Patea, from Patea, arrived In port yesterday morning at 5.30. She returned to the same port last night. Thu steamer Wallace left Nelson on Monday evening and arrived here at 5 o'clock yesterday evening. Bile returns again this afternoon, The topsail schooner Julius Vogel arrived hero yesterday morning from Kaipara, timber laden, after an unusually long passage of thirteen days. She left Kalpanv on the Ist instant, and experienced a succes ion of light southerly and south-east weather. She Is discharging at the breastwork. The ketch Falcon, from Patea, arrived in harbor late on Monday night and hauled alongside the wharf She loft Patea at 11.30 p.m. on Thursday, and experienced very rough weather and head winds, which compelled her to run for Queen Charlotte Bound, where alio anchored until Monday morning. The weather having moderated she weighed anchor, and ivrived hero as above. The tonnage loading on the berth at London, March 13. for India, China,’ and the Capa of Go d Hope, amounted to 47,750 tona, and for. Australia and New Zealand to 40.216 tons, , * Messrs. Shaw, Savl 10, and Co. have on the berth at London, for Auckland and Napier, the barque Glen Caladh, Captain Lament. On March 10 Messrs. John Elder and Co. launched a screw steamer from their ship building yard, at Govan. The Arizona is the largest vessel ever built on the Clyde, and in point of capacity will, next to the Great Eystern, bo the largest merchant steamer afloat. She Is built for the Onion Line, to ply between Liverpool and New York. Her length of keel Is 405 ft; breadth, 40ft; depth, 37ft; and tonnage, 6500; with an indicated horse power of GOOD. The schooner Edith, fr<m Rarotonga, at Auckland, brought Mr. Harvey, engineer of the Sydney steamer Eva, who reports that after leaving the Eva-he took passage on the American schooner Conconda for Rarotonga. She stopped at the Scilly Islands, 350 miles from Tahiti, to land the American Consul, and, while waiting there, a strong current carried thovc ael close to the reefs, and she went ashore in a gale. The twenty-six souls aboard. Including the passengers, were a)i saved. They also goc a quantity of provisions ashore. The island was barren, being a mere sand' l bank, but they subsisted for throe weeks on their provisions. They were rescued by the Caroline Mada, schooner, and taken to Tahiti, Respecting the withdrawal of several largo steam ships from the Australian trade, the Sydney Evening News, nf the 24th ultimo, says:—“A private letter received from London this morning from Captain Hynes, so well and favorably known as the coal* mandcr of the Whanvoa, states that his ‘vessel has been sold to an Italian firm. She left London, on I March 13, under tho Italian flag, and is called} the Manilla. Tho St. Osyth is also sold to tbfe same I people, and is called the Singapore.’' It is understood that tho Hankow is also to be sold to the same line on her return from China, 'I boy are to trade- between j Genoa, Naples, and other Italian porta and Bombay, and will be heavily subsidised by tho Italian Govern. ment. Captain Hynes.is exceedingly sorry at command of tho Whampoa, but more a t having to break off from tho very many frier ,da he made in Sydney.
