She left at 5 p.m. the same day, and passed the Sol aiders at 7 a.m. on the 12th. Ex-’ porienced fine weather throughout. She sailed at 4 p.m. for Bunedin. Saloon passengers for Wellington : Mr. Burts, Mr. and Mrs. Curies and family (5); and 3 in the steerage.

Barques—Hudson, Gloria, Clan Campbell, India; ‘ Thames, G. M. Tucker, Sophia R. Luhrs, and : Australind. Brigs—Jane, and Robin Hood. Brigantines—Ethel, and Endeavor, The brig Neptune left Newcastle for here last Friday. ... The steamer Ladybird, for Auckland via the East Coast, sailed yesterday afternoon. The barques Thimes and Gloria were both removed from the wharf yesterday. Pilot Slmma was in charge.
The barques Ma'ay and Edwin Bassett, both coni laden, two more of Captain Williams’ fleet, may bo expected to arrive at any hour. The steamer Oreti, for the Manukau via Wanganui, sailed last evening. .• She may bo expected hero again on the 22nd. ' ■ • The Wave Queen, for Newcastle, does nob sail until the end of the week. Her whereabouts from there is not known as yet, The ManawatU, after having been ‘ thoroughly overhauled on the Patent Slip, loft last night for Wanganui. f • ■
The sailing of the Stoimblrd, for Foxton, has been postponed until to-day. The Endeavor will probably get away to-day. The brig Robin Hood and barques G. Mi Tucker and Sophia R. Lubxs, wore all busy landing their coal on tho wharf yesterday. The barque Austraiind commenced discharging Into one of her owner’s hulks.
The, Klngarooma, for-Melbourne and Hobarfcon via tho South, left tho wharf yesterday afternoon. As. ■asual a number of persons congregated to see this favorite take hor departure. Tho steamer Patea.-from Patea, is due hero this morning, and is advertised to sail at 6 o’clock. The steamer Napier, from Blenheim, arrived hero last evening; She returns again to Blenhe m to-day. Tho sto iraor Tui, from Wanganui, is due here today. .
The steamer Stormblrd, from Foxton, arrived In harbor early yesterday morning. She left the Foxton wharf at noon on Saturday : crossed the bar at 1 p.m., and arrived as above. Fine weather was experienced across.
Tho barque Thames has landed the Wellington portion of her cargo in splendid order. She will leave for Lyttelton to-morrow. The steamer Hula arrived at midnight from Foxton. She left thero.a 1 . 2 p.m. on Monday,, and experienced fine weather across. Captain Wills reports seeing a’ number of small craft in tho Strait. : The Huia leaves for Kaikoura and Lyttelton this evening, , There has been a tremendous sea running off tho East Coast during tho last week. Every captain that has arrived lately informs us that tho sea Is unusually high. The Southern Cross, which arrived last night, had all her work to do to keep way on her, In fact several times she drifted astern by the force of the sea. By tho however, the swell had fallen almost to a calm. : . ■-

She would- probably have dona it In less time had it'.not boon for the fact that while at Oumaru she collided with a three-masted schooner, the consequence being that the Zior had her foretopmast carried away. Of course her topgallant and topsail yards came down with a crash on deck. Fortunately, however, no damage was done to any of the hands. On account of this mishap she was consequently prevented from'setting 1 a large portion of her square canvss. She loft Oamaru on Saturday night, and had a fine sou'herly breeze across. She arrived off the Heads early yesterday mpming and sailed ’ at ‘ once in to Plimmer’s, whagt where she commenced discharging. ...
The steamer Kiwi-arrived In harbor at 3,30 yesterday afternoon, from Napier. , It will be that she h»d\tvm blades of her propeller carried, away. Oaptaln,Campbell informs us that he had great difficulty in .getting the now ones, which were sent from hpre, put on. All the coals and cargo frop n the after part of the vessel had to bo put out to llgijion her aft, and even then it took a considerable time for the engineer to complete the Job, owing to. the slight fall of water. At length, however, the jo' j was completed satisfactorily, and she proceeded on. her return trip leaving on Friday night at 10 o’cloc when off Cape Turnagain she was met in 'lie w [th a fierce head wind, which compelled her to heavc-to for twenty hours. A ne, w steamer arrived at Melbourne on April 28 to the Q-cdor of the Melbourne Steamship Company. She is called the Rodondo. and was built by Messrs. W. H. Potter and Co, of Llv rpool, of the following dimensions: —Length. 240 ft; beam, 80ft; depth of hold, 21ft Sin; tonnage, 1143 tons; net, 714 tons, Her accommodation is equal to 68 saloon and 68 steerage passengers.” Her engines were made by Messrs. J. Jack and Co, of Liv/rpool. They are 150 horse power nominal, the cylinders being ,30ln and 571 n respectively. The voyage occupied 53,days from the Mersey to .Melbourne.
The Melbourne of April 28 says:—"As a matter of considerable Interest to shipmasters and others, and as showing the derangement to which compasses of iron vessels are liable when nearing this port, the following experience of Captain Donaldson who arrived on Saturday from Liverpool, with the new steamer Rodondo, may bo recorded Captain Donaldson reports that when abreast of Capo Bridgewat'T. on Friday afternoon, ho took azimuths to correct his course thence to Cape Otway/and found the error in the course tobelßdeg. W. The weather all night was thick and cloudy, and not having seen anything, nor the Otway light.or land, he took a set of azimuths again next morning, and found the error in the course to be lOdeg. E.—-or a difference of nearly 2$ points; and bad ho kept on, the probability is that. he might have made a sudden and most undesirable acquaintance with some point of the dangerous surroundings of King’s Island. The compass which showed the variations worked remarkably true on th» voyage, out until nearing this coast. In bringing oufr the Leura last year Captain Donaldson found that the* compass errors wero all on the eastward, but in theRodondo the experience was reversed, and the errors; on the laVcr were to the westward. Both steamers* It may be remarked, wero built at the same yard* and in the same position."
