THE CHESS CLUB.
The annual meeting of the Wellington Chess Club took place last evening, in the club rooms, Paanma Chambers. There was a fair attendance of members. The officers elected for the ensuing year were:—President, Hon. J. Ballance ; Vice-President, Charles Benbow; Treasurer and Secretary, E. C. Hullett; Committee, Messrs. Green, Didsbury, Whittem, Willis, and Barraud.
The meeting decided that the night of play should be changed from Monday to Wednesday ; also, that a record should bo kept of all games played in the club room daring the ensuing season. The other business was purely of a formal nature. The season was then opened by Mr. Benbow playing all comers simultaneously, with the foUowing result: — M inner. Benbow v. Barraud Benbow Benbow v. Thompson .. .. Benbow Benbow v. Brady Benbow Benbow v. Willis .. .. .. Benbow Benbow v. Hullett Benbow Benbow v. Thane Benbow Benhew v. Bishop Benbow Benbow V. Bate Benbow Benbow v. Didsbury Benbow Benbow v. Whittem .. .. .. Whittem Benbow v. Green Green The club meets next for play on Wednesday, the 21st instant.
