PRESENTATION TO MR. E. W. MILLS.

The following flattering presentation was made by those engaged in both branches of. trade, and is a satisfactory proof of the entente cordiale that exists in these establishments between employer and employed. The gift to Mrs. Mills was a handsome album, bound in maroon and velvet, and mounted in silver. In; the centre was a shield with the following in-, scription : —“Presented to Mrs. E. W. Mills by the employees of the commercial and foundry departments, on the 25th anniversary, of the establishment of the business by Mr.. E. W. Mills.” Mr. Mills was presented with a massive gold locket with the arms of the family engraved on the front, and on the reverse side the following;—“ToE. W. Mills, Eeq., - on the 25th anniversary of the establishment of his business.” A short sketch oL the history of the firm during the past twentyfive years was given, and the satisfactory relations which had been maintained between employers and employed were favorably noticed. Mr. Mills thanked those who made the presentation on behalf of himself and of his wife, and expressed his thanks for this token of their kindness and esteem. He trusted that the same good understanding would always exist between himself and those under him, for his special aim and desire had always been to foster good feeling between employers; and employed. He saw amongst those around him many who were with him in early days, when he commenced business, and though since that time he had had many difficulties to contend against, he was proud to say that there never had been any work required that could not be accomplished at the foundry. With respect to the hardware establishment, it had increased almost beyond expectation, and with a continuance of the good feeling and unanimity shown by all engaged in it, he had no doubt it would increase still more, and the whole business become eventually not only second to none in the colony but the first south, of the line.
