The, following table shows the number _of births,, the actual mortality, and the proportion of deaths to population in the boroughs of Auckland, Thames,< Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hokitika, and Invercargill, during the month of March, 1879: — i ’
The births .were 21 more than in February, 1879. Tlie deaths were 21 less in number, than the deaths in February, 1879. ! Of the deaths, males contributed 87; females, 64 : 84 of the deaths were of children under 6 years of age, being 55'63 per cent, of the whole number.; 65 of these were of children under 1 year of age. . There were 9 deaths of persons over 65 years : of age, viz., 2 males of 66 and 79 and 1 female of 70 at Auckland ; 1 male of 79 at Thames ; 2 males of 73 and 84’at Dunedin ; 1 female of ; 68 at Christchurch; 1 male of 65 and 1 female "of7o at Wellington.
