WASTE LANDS BOARD.

A special meeting of the Waste Lands Board was held yesterday to consider certain suggestions from Mr. Macarthur, chairman of the Manawatu County Council. Present —The Chief Commissioner, Mr. J. G. Holdsworth (in the chair), Messrs. Bunny, Mason, and Johnston. The following letter was read “To Chairman, Waste Lauds Board, “ Wellington. “Sir, —I have been informed by the Under Secretary for Crown Lands that the original apportionment of the vote of <£lo,ooo, to be expended on roads within deferred payment blocks taken up prior to the Ist January, 1878, has been adhered to, as far as the Manawatu County is concerned ; that is to say, a total sum of £IOBO is allowed to that county, £SOO of which is to be expended in the Palmerston North Block, and £SBO in the Kiwitea Block. I enclose a memo, showing how we propose to expend the money voted, having special reference to the sections taken up on deferred payment within those blocks for your approval.—l am, &c., “ D. H. Macarthdb, “ Chairman, Manawatu County Council.” MEMO. The following is a copy of the memo, referred to : “ Felling to a width of 66ft., and clearing to a width of 33ft. 120 chains of bush on the road line between sections 254, 258,'259, 263, and 264, on the one side ; and 255, 256, 257, 260, 261, 262, and 265, on the other side; being end of Kirabolton-road, as laid down on the ■township. “Felling to a width of 66ft., and clearing about 160 chains of bush, and a width of 33ft. on the road line between sections 277, 276, 275, 274,273, 272, 268, and 267, on the one side, and sections 198, 197, 196, 195, 194, 193, 192, 191, and 190, on the other side, known as Mcßeth’sroad. “ Forming about 60 chains of road between sections 155, 157, 159, and 161, on the one side; and 156, 158, 160, and 162, on the other side, being continuation of road from the end of the formed portion of McKay’s-rpad.” APPROXIMATE ESTIMATE. , 230 chains bush felling and clearing, at . . say 25s per chain ... .. ... £350 ' 0 0 60 chains of formation, at say £3lsa .. 225 0 0 One culvert, siy .. .. .. .. 5 0 0 Total .. .. .. .. £SBO 0 0 It was resolved, —That the expenditure proposed by the chairman of the Manawatu County Council on road fronting sections 256, 257, 260, 261, 262, and 191 to 198 inclusive, and 156, 158, 160, 162, and 164, in the Kiwitea Block, in the township of Sandon, he agreed to.. It was also agreed that the expenditure, as suggested in the memorandum, be agreed to. This was all the business, and the meeting adjourned.
